Astronomy and Astrophysics
Astronomy is the science of the universe. This area of study teaches students about the physics and characteristics of the solar system, stars, galaxies and cosmological models. The course work is embedded within the context of the latest technologies, observational techniques, theories and discoveries and ranges across the entire electromagnetic spectrum.
Astronomy and astrophysics at Macquarie is recognised as a concentration of research excellence and is a highly active, rapidly growing, internationally significant centre of astronomical endeavour in close proximity to both the Anglo-Australian Observatory and Australia Telescope National Facility. This offers valuable synergies and student opportunities for projects in astronomy and astrophotonics/astronomical instrumentation.
