Biotechnology

Biotechnology is a specific discipline in the wider area of biomolecular science, and is currently undergoing rapid growth, leading to a high demand for graduates in this field.

Biotechnology applies knowledge of biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology and chemistry to new technical and industrial processes and students can take a combination of these subjects.

Biotechnology is used in many areas, including biopharmaceutical discovery and production, developing improved crop varieties for sustainable food production, and exploiting biodiversity for new bioactive compounds.

Graduates in Biotechnology can work in biotechnology companies and the pharmaceutical industry, or in a diverse range of research positions.
