Mathematics
Although it has ancient roots, Mathematics is a very modern and dynamic subject that underpins today's technology. While specific mathematical content is required for some jobs, a mathematics degree provides unique training in abstract reasoning and problem solving which are highly sought after by employers.
On the one hand, mathematics is pure thought, independent of the external world. On the other, it needs to look to the world for its inspiration. In the past astronomy and physics produced new branches of mathematics. In more recent times, computing science and finance have been added to that list.
The advanced mathematics program is primarily designed for students with higher mathematical ability who are studying mathematics or some other subject which requires a considerable level of mathematical expertise. In particular, it is designed for those interested in mathematics or an area that uses a lot of mathematics such as astronomy, computing, electronics and physics, as well as banking and finance.
