Optical Technology

Optical technology supports devices and systems that use both light and electrical signals to function. Laser systems, fibre-optic communications systems, remote sensing systems, medical diagnosis systems and optical information systems are all examples of optoelectronic/photonic  echnologies.

Our students study relevant physics, optics, mathematics and electronics subjects, to develop technical writing and communications skills, technology management, and practical skills using modern instrumentation and facilities.

Students are placed in local technology companies to work on an industry-based project in their final semester.  This enhances employment opportunities in areas including photonics and optics research and  evelopment, technology sales or management, education, and medical technology.
