Physics

Physics is the science of matter and energy and their interactions. Physics encompasses a broad range of subjects including the mechanics of motion and relativity, light and electromagnetic theory, and quantum mechanics.  At its interface with chemistry is condensed matter physics, and at the interface with biology is biophysics and biophotonics.

Physics at Macquarie is currently undergoing strong growth with many new staff joining the department. It hosts three concentrations of research excellence in the areas of quantum information science and security, photonics, and astronomy and astrophysics; students are taught by well informed research-active staff.

Physics graduates are renowned, and prized by employers, for their analytical ability - solving abstract and difficult problems by 'thinking outside the box'.
