Community
Taking science, engineering and technology to the community
Staff and students from Macquarie University’s Faculty of Science contribute to the community by:
- participating in chiropractic and other health-related clinical fieldwork for sporting teams, workplaces and the general community
- providing assistance to the community in dealing with environmental disputes
- providing training courses for local government officers who are responsible for managing air quality issues
- running psychology, anxiety, speech pathology and audiology clinics that provide professional services to the community
- Using the Internet and 3D visualisation software to share their discoveries from invisible worlds to the remote areas of the Pilbara. Experience 'science in the making'
- running a weekend School of Astronomy
- the Observatory is open every Friday night but astronomy open nights are only held twice a year, contact Alan Vaughan
- sponsoring the Macquarie University Eureka Schools Prize for Earth, Environmental and Planetary Science
- facilitating economic and social development with Aboriginal communities and working with Indigenous people to investigate the efficacy of bush medicines. These activities are conducted by Maquarie University Indigenous Bioresources Research Group.
Museums
Members of the public are invited to visit Macquarie University’s museums including the Biological Sciences Museum and the Earth Sciences Museum.
