The Postgraduate Certificate in Research Preparation (ELS) is a qualifying program for students wishing to enrol in the Master of Philosophy programs in the Faculty of Science. The Postgraduate Certificate Research Preparation program is available in 11 strands: Biology SCNC21P Chemistry and Biomolecular Sciences SCNC23P Earth and Planetary Sciences SCNC25P Graduate School of the Environment SCNC27P Health and Chiropractic SCNC29P Human Geography SCNC31P ; Physical Geography SCNC33P ; Computing SCNC35P ; Engineering SCNC37P ; Mathematics SCNC39P  and Physics SCNC41P .

Suitable for:

Students wishing to pursue Higher Degree Research study in the Science field, who do not yet have sufficient research training.

Career Opportunities:

Graduates will normally continue on to further Higher Degree Research study, and pursue careers in academic research and teaching.

Requirements

Entry Requirements:

The basic admission qualification is the completion of a recognised Bachelor degree. Applicants should also obtain approval from an academic willing to be the supervisor of the research project. English Language Requirements:
  • IELTS (Academic English only): Minimum 6.5 overall, with 6.0 in each section
  • TOEFL (Paper based test): Minimum 580 overall, with 53 Listening, 52 Reading, 59 Structure/ Written Expression, 5.0 TWE
  • TOEFL (Computer based test): Minimum 237 overall, with 19 Listening, 19 Reading, 25 Structure/Writing
  • TOEFL (Internet based test): Minimum 92 overall, with 18 Listening, 17 Reading, 22 Writing, 22 Speaking
