General science

Scholarship at Macquarie University Macquarie University Research Excellence Scholarships (MQRES)

Funding body: Macquarie University
Award description: This scholarship is available for a maximum of 3.5 years for ful1-time internal PhD study at Macquarie University and offers a stipend, allowances (relocation, thesis) and International tuition for the award tenure. Domestic students are RTS funded. The award stipend is currently $19,231 per annum, tax exempt (2006 rate, indexed to rise annually) paid fortnightly.
Who should apply: Applicants must have completed the equivalent of an Australian four-year bachelor degree study with first-class Honours, such as a masters degree with substantial thesis component.

Scholarship at Macquarie University Australian Postgraduate Award (APA)

Funding body: Department of Education, Science and Training
Award description: Three years doctoral study or two years Masters study at Macquarie University.  Full-time award is $18,837 per annum.  Part-time award is $10,118 per annum.
Who should apply: Applicants must have completed at least four years of higher degree study with first-class Honours in the mid to high range

Scholarship at Macquarie University Australian Postgraduate Award (Industry) (APAI)

Funding body: Department of Education, Science and Training
Award description: Three years doctoral study or two years Masters study at Macquarie University.  Full-time award is $23,886 per annum.  Part-time award is $13,160 per annum.
Who should apply: Applicants must have completed a minimum of second-class division one Honours.   Applicants are encouraged to contact academic staff in their area of research interest to enquire about the possibility of awards.

Scholarship at Macquarie University Endeavour International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (E-IPRS)

Funding body: Macquarie University
Award description: A living allowance for a maximum 3.5 years to E-IPRS awardees under the MQRES scheme.
Who should apply:

Available for tenure by graduates who wish to undertake postgraduate study and research in Australian institutions of higher education. Applicants must be citizens of countries other than Australia and New Zealand, and must not hold permanent residency of Australia.

Funding body: The Harvard Club of Australia, The Menzies Foundation and the Australian National University
Award description: Up to US$50,000

Scholarship to study or research abroad Rhodes Scholarship to Oxford

Funding body: The Rhodes Trust
Award description: Payment of fees at Oxford University, a personal allowance, a travel allowance
Who should apply: Applicants with literary and scholastic attainment to an Honours degree; fondness of and success in outdoors sports; qualities of truth, courage, devotion to duty and sympathy towards the weak.  The applicant must exhibit moral force of character and have the instincts to lead and take an interest in their contemporaries.  Applicants must have been accepted into Oxford University.

Prizes, medals and awards National Fresh Science Program 2006

Funding body: Department of Education, Science and Training and the State of Victoria
Award description: Intense media training course, assistance with writing a press release, stories issued to the national and often international media.  The British Council Study Tour is awarded to the finalist who best meets the objectives of the program. The NewScientist Award is a democratic 'people's choice' award. The winner, as judged by their peers, will receive a one year subscription to NewScientist magazine.

Funding body: Australian Institute of Sport Centre for Sports Science and Sports Medicine in Canberra
Award description: $17,307 tenable for 45 weeks for the study of applied sport psychology.  The Centre will provide a living allowance and living away from home allowance.
Who should apply: Outstanding and ambitious postgraduate students who have completed a four-year APS accredited psychology program.
