2010 Degree Information

Faculty: Faculty of Science
Course Type: Undergraduate
Campus: North Ryde
Description:

Chiropractic is the third largest healing profession today. Chiropractors recognise the importance of body structures and how they affect our health. They use spinal adjustments, manipulation and other physical means to assist the inherent recuperative powers of the body in the restoration and the maintenance of health. They use a range of diagnostic tools including X-ray.

The Bachelor of Chiropractic Science aims to teach a wide range of chiropractic diagnostic and manipulative skills on a background of anatomical, physiological and biomedical science studies. It is a prescribed program which provides a strong scientific foundation and includes units in anatomy, physiology, microbiology, histology and pathology.

Key Features:
  • The Bachelor of Chiropractic Science is a prescribed program, meaning that due to accreditation requirements, the content of the program is prescribed by the specific professional needs. Therefore, Majors or Minors are not able to be offered.
  • Clinical placements form part of the degree. Therefore, students are required to attend both University teaching clinics and structured visits to other facilities from time to time.
Suitable for:

The Bachelor of Chiropractic Science is designed to provide the prerequisite academic background to enable students to apply for entry into the Master of Chiropractic which is required for professional registration. The Bachelor degree program also provides a good basis for students who are interested in pursuing a career in health care fields, particularly areas requiring scientific and diagnostic knowledge.

Accreditation:

To gain accreditation with the Australian Chiropractic Registration Board, students must undertake the following postgraduate qualification: Master of Chiropractic (two years full-time) after completing the Bachelor of Chiropractic Science. Once both degrees are completed then graduates can obtain a licence to practise as a chiropractic practitioner. The combined program is recognised by australian health departments and international accreditation authorities.
